Sinners

Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?

Jesus said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." (Mark 2:16-17)

"Truly, truly, I say to you, every one who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not continue in the house for ever; the son continues for ever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.(John 8:34-36)

The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, `Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds". (Matthew 11:19)

Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way (Psalm 25:48).

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin (1 John 5:7).

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (1 John 5:8). If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us (1 John 5:10). If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not live according to the truth (1 John 5:6).

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 5:9).

We ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by men and hating one another; but when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us (Titus 3:3-5).

We have sinned, been wicked and done evil; we have rebelled and departed from your commandments and your laws. We have not obeyed your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name (Daniel 9:5-6).

Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name; deliver us, and forgive our sins, for thy name's sake! (Psalm 79:9)

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish (Psalms 1: 1 - 4, 6).

"They shall not defile themselves any more with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God" (Ezekiel 37:23).

I am writing this to you so that you may not sin; but if any one does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world (1 John 2:1-2).

Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. - Hebrews 12:3
